Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Thank you so much for coming out today to celebrate our father with us. Most people called our dad Mr. Adjei. We called him Daddy. Growing up he always taught us to stand up for ourselves and to have our own opinion. He raised us to be strong, confident, and to always have a ‘can do’ attitude. He told us that as a child he was very good at math, and he usually said this in a way that made us believe that inherently we were good with figures.

Our father loved us very much, without a doubt. He was quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to be cross. As children, our dad made certain we never lacked the essentials for our development. We attended good schools and he ensured we received the necessary support to transition smoothly through the different educational milestones. As a college graduate himself, it was important to him that his children reached that level at a minimum. We always felt motivated to make him proud.

We have fond childhood memories of our parents regularly attending church with us. Dad was usually attired in a traditional cloth with shorts and sandals. On occasions he had us dress in traditional clothes too, and would teach the boys how to don a cloth properly. If you are guessing he also taught the boys how to tie their first dress tie knots, you are right.

No matter the ups and downs we faced, we could always count on him. If there was one person we could always talk to, share a problem with, or visit, without worrying about complaints or being judged, it was our dad. He had a strong presence. That, to many, may have seemed intimidating, but he had a gentle side. You could tell him anything and knew that he wouldn’t judge you. Instead, he encouraged us to follow our instincts and sound judgment. We will miss our dad’s wonderful presence every day. We are grateful for the many years we had with him.

We know for most of you here, our dad touched your lives in some way and you shared mutual respect and affection with him. To celebrate our dad, we ask that you do a ‘Kofi’ every so often. Doing a ‘Kofi’ will simply be going out of your way to help other people. Each time we do this, in our hearts, our dad will be smiling on us. Thank you all for coming to join us bid farewell to our father, Joseph Kofi Adjei
