Tribute from
Alhaji Wahabi Tijani
Tribute to a special friend
My memories of Adjei, Joseph, as we fondly called him, are many. We grew up in the same town, went to the same primary, middle and high schools in the late 50s and 60s.
In primary school, I can still remember up till this day his line in a Christmas school play, where he was acting as Peter, the disciple, and was about to heal the sick and he goes “silver and gold have I none but in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk”. He was about 7 or 8 at the time. An early display of precociousness.
Adjei was a football maestro in primary school he was featured as a midfielder on the team and had many successful results with his footballing skills. He was a student-athlete with academic laurels.
In high school, he became a crooner, a guitarist extraordinaire, on a pop band and was popularly called by his guy name “Guy Lampado”. During long “vacs” (vacations) the band toured many principal towns in the country.
It’s been a privilege to have known Adjei, we were family not just friends and I will carry him in spirit each and every time I 'rendezvous’ with Abedi on my annual trip home.
Fare thee well my good friend. Until we meet up once again. Heaven is the recipient of another worthy angel.
